Activity: Electric Power; Series & Parallel Circuits

First day of observation – The lesson is about electric power. The teacher assimilates the topic on daily life and the students participate. Some students throw humor while discussing but the teacher still has control over her students. When it is time to discuss she makes sure that the students are listening. She also evaluates her students by giving activities after discussion. She gives incentives on students who do their lecture.

Reflection:

The teacher taught the lesson well. To be honest, I understand the lesson better when she discussed it rather than when I was in high school. Maybe because I don’t have the attention span I had then, so if the learners only listen to the teacher they would pass the activities and quiz that she gave to them. Although she gives extrinsic motivation to the students she makes sure that the lesson is thoroughly discussed by assimilating it to our daily life. I think that the teacher did that so the students would easily catch the principles and can participate in class.

Activity: Examination Day

The teacher prepares the classroom by arranging the chairs. He makes sure that the room is neat and ready for the exam. He also told the students that we, the student teachers will have an incentive if we caught anyone cheating. The professor also roams inside the classroom while the exam is ongoing

Reflection:

The statement of the teacher made a mindset to the students to avoid cheating because they will have a huge chance of getting caught since the professor and three student observers are guarding the students. The professor also roams inside the classroom while the exam is ongoing. I believe that it’s the way to make the students avoid cheating since they might get caught or they might not know that the professor is already watching them.

Activity: Investigatory Project Activity

The professor is out for the day because of the JS Promenade but he leaves the students the activity of discussing their investigatory project. Students were asked by the student teachers to further improve their investigatory project.

Reflection:

The students’ variations show when the teacher is out. Others tend their investigatory project while others chat. Students’ diversity, the difference of their characteristics and personality shows when the teacher is outside. Student teachers take control of the class by asking them to finish their investigatory project but other students would not listen may be because like them they are still students. Although the teacher was out for the day some groups showed effort in discussing their investigatory project even the boys group who were expected to be noisy and playful for that day discussed their project first.

Activity: Oral Defense on Investigatory Project

The teacher starts the class with a prayer. He then told the students to also greet the student observers. He taught the students how to do so. Afterwards he asks the students to sit properly. He also reminded the students about their investigatory project and other matters. He then asks the groups who have already finished their investigatory project. He also told them the reason why they should have submitted the project on the deadline. The group who has submitted the investigatory written report was asked on their written report. He asked each member and assured that each had its contribution by asking them one by one.

Reflection:

The teacher starts the lesson only when the class is ready to listen. He also informs the students of the consequences if they would not pass the project. He tells them the reasons why they should pass the project – because he still needs to read it before he could further asks questions about their project. Since the project is a group project he makes sure that everyone in the group...
